Having first obtained DNV type approval to manufacture sling sets for offshore containers to DNV2.7-1 and 2.7-3 in 2015, Anchor recently underwent their first renewal audit during August. “Despite manufacturing thousands of approved slings over the last few years, we still need to ensure we’re keeping up-to-date with standard changes and the latest DNV-GL requirements,” explains Rensia Volschenk, Cape Town Branch Manager. “This audit gave us the perfect opportunity to re-evaluate our procedures and processes and bring them inline with recent changes,” continues Volschenk. “Our documentation was thoroughly evaluated, break tests were conducted on samples and product calculations checked by DNV-GL’s senior Engineer in USA, before approval was extended until 2024.”
DNV-GL sling sets are used on containers in the offshore industries. To allow for dynamic amplification that is experienced in offshore lifting during adverse weather and sea states, all sling sets used on these containers must be designed to handle the increase in tension on the rigging and supplied with an enhanced working load limit. Components used on approved sling sets must be sourced from DNV-GL approved manufacturers to ensure the integrity of these safety critical products.
